Check out universities like Warwick, Bristol and Bath - all have a good reputation in the accounting and finance area. Another one to look out for is Aston, which is a decidedly average to poor university for most subjects but has an excellent business school. A fresher can expect to earn £20,000 - £25,000 as a starting salary, depending on the area in which you live. There is healthy competition for places but having an MSc from a reputable university will certainly put you in good stead for a job.

Can I stay in the UK to work after I have finished studying? This depends on whether you meet the requirements for any of the schemes that the UK Government operates. At the moment, the schemes that are most significant for students who have finished their studies are: Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) for those who have obtained a UK degree or postgraduate certificate or diploma (or HND from a Scottish institution). This replaces the International Graduates Scheme and the Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme from 30 June 2008 Tier 2 for jobs where no one in the resident labour market can be recruited, and occupations where there is a shortage of qualified workers. This replaces work permits and some other work routes from 27 November 2008 Tier 1 (General) for those with degrees and work experience and prior earnings at a certain level. This replaces the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme

We actually interviewed some of the experts on this very topic in one of our podcasts. Here's a quick preview: Fiona Sandford is Director of Career Services at the London School of Economics and Political Science says the MBA track or the Master’s in Science track can lead to the same career but using different approaches. “The traditional MBA course exposes you to a wide range of management disciplines, and gives you a way of thinking about management and a career in that area. An MSc in Finance or an MSc in Economics gives you a very rigorous academic approach to finance disciplines or to economics. But it doesn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, preclude you from going on to developing a career in Management as many students do. So I think it depends on individual learning styles.†To listen to the rest of her advice, check out our free podcast at http://www.mbapodcaster.com/MBA_MoreInfo/MBAvMSF.asp?iEpisode=12. It's known as an MBA in the US, Masters of Business Administration. The renowned Harvard Business School actually has a wide range of open-enrollment programs, and many materials via CD, et c. If you have a degree from an English-speaking university, you can apply directly. You might find it easier than you think to get accepted.

As long as you are here with a visa, you can work. If you are not legally here, than technically you can not.

Sorry I really don't know anything about the universities in terms of finance courses but I know a bit about the unis through research from applying myself this year. Not sure if you've visited queen marys at all but I'd really not recommend it- it was really shabby and unimpressive although I only went for a tour not an open day. Could just have got a bad side of it though as it was particularly poor for my course however I can't help but assume the rest might follow suit. The advantage of that is that it's a London college therefore you'd get all the facilities from all the colleges, which to be honest you'd need from looking at the state of queen mary's library... Birmingham was so impressive I've applied (and got an offer from) myself. They're consistently highly ranked not only generally but particularly by employers and have a very good reputation. Personally I dislike Bristol univ. students as you get a lot of oxbridge rejects however I'm probably very biased as I have to put up with them a lot though living in Bristol. Once again- nout about finance other than the standards of teaching are generally very high As for Cardiff and Exeter neither stiked me as being amazing. As far as I know they are both good and up and coming but I really don't know enough about them to make any judgements. Well done on getting 5 offers, I hope you make the right decision. Overall I'd say Burmingham or Bristol but you should really do some more research yourself... Hope this helps anyway

Funny i was looking into accounting and finance in uk as well. Well, so far i found queen mary to be my favorite. I would have recommended London school of economics because its the best but it wasnt on your list so i suggest u type in top uk colleges for finance, and pick whichever is the highest according to your list. It will usually give the top 50 or something, and if you recognise one from your list that is higher than the rest, go for it.. congrats and good luck

As you may know the global financial crisis has hit the UK pretty hard. Still...if you are good you may find a job, but you will also need an official allowance to work in the UK. You could ask the British embassy in India about that, they should know all the details.
