Career change from architecture to finance/investment management?
I'm 34 w/ a MSc in architecture. Been an architect for the past 7 years, but now looking for a serious career change. I'm considering doing the CFA program to find a job in investment management, but wondering if I make any chance at all getting a good job at my age given my lack of finance/economic education and work experience so far. Any tips?

Well... If you are just starting the CFA you can start as a financial adviser ( for experience) and 2 years later, when you finish the CFA, get a better job. But i can't see finance as an easy career to now start getting into.

I think it's great that you know that you want a change AND have some inspiration and direction on what you would like to do. As I'm sure you're aware, this sort of career transition will take some strategic planning and some resources. And, no, I don't think you're too old to make such a transition as long as you go into it with your eyes wide open and well-informed. You have at least 20 - 30 more years in your career! :) As a Career Coach, I always encourage my clients who are considering a career transition to do some informational interviews with folks who are in the job or field they want to go into. Many times you can connect with folks via LinkedIn, Facebook, Plaxo, etc. Even if you don't know the person, many people are willing to spend 20 - 30 minutes on the phone or at coffee to talk about themselves and their career. If you get turned down a few times after requesting informational interviews, don't be discouraged. There ARE people out there who want to help others. It's a bonus if you can find people in the accounting field who went into the field later in their career (like you would be doing). Use your friends and family network and ask them for help in finding such a person (or people) that you may be able to chat with. Reaching out on forums like this is a great start! You may find some CFAs who are answering questions that you could contact for an informational interview. If I can answer any other questions about your career transition, please contact me! -Kelly Harrington Career Coach www.kellyharrington.com

Well why not contact the universities you are interested in and ask them? different instituitions will have different requirements.
2
well first of all BA means bachelor of arts not bachelor of business administration ,itzzz B.BA and M.SC means Master of Science ...."M.COM" is the masters degree in Economics and If you are graduated in "B.BA" u can do "M.COM" or you can do "M.BA" (Master of Business Administration) Best of Luck :)

hi!how to be a Financial Analyst(have related Msc Dedgree) with a working history in Finance Service? Thanks!?
Hello everyone. here's an urgent question since i've been trapped in for a long time. I studied Msc in Investment Analysis 2 years ago, and worked in Finance Service area after that. just a few months ago, i realized that that was not the job i would love to do, so i quit it and trying to find a job in Financial Analysis or finance risk management.(apparently it turned out that i made a wrong decision. don't know if this this job-loss will affect my future jobs) at the moment, i am looking for a entry level job to start, also thinking about to post my cv to companies to get some working experience. could anyone here give me some guidance on this? you are very very welcome to give me any advice on small details, if you don't mind.thanks very much for your help!

Here is a secret that colleges never tell you: There is no such thing (or nearly none) entry level financial analysts. Financial analysts are nearly always CPAs and you cannot become a CPA with anything other than an accounting degree, 2 years of public audit and passing the CPA exam. The only other way I have seen, is to take a job in accounting and work your way up. In case you haven't noticed, banks & investment companies are either dead, or dying. Laying off millions in great big waves. First the banks & mega-corporations decimated American manufacturing & now they are doing the same to their own industry. You need to find a job, any job and then keep looking for your "perfect" job. Good luck

try big four - PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) - KPMG - Deloitte & Touche - Earnest & Young these are the big four auditing firms... i would've told you to go to investment banks, but as you sure notices that there is a crisis going on, and lot's of these investment companies are downsizing now, and surely not hiring. but in the other hand, assurance companies (mentioned above) have financial advisory lines of services and enterprise risk management as well, and will be busy for the upcoming 10 years. more regulations, needs more audit control, risk management, governance and compliance controls.

Good English ability.

You need more that just English to work in a bank in the UK. You need A-Levels plus ,most banking and finance jobs in the UK usually require minimum qualifications such as a degree, certificate, or diploma for the relevant industry sector.

I always got the impression Glasgow had the best all-round reputation, but my friend, who wants to do business, assures me that "Strathclyde has the best business school in Scotland" so I suppose it's really a toss up (: Glasgow is well known as one of the top UK universities, but business seems to be one place where Strathclyde could possibly out-do them. I'd expect you'd receive a pretty good education at either.
